Michael J. Hunter
Mr. Hunter is admitted to practice before the Courts of Ohio, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts in Ohio, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the Columbus, Ohio, and American Bar Associations, the AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee, the Ohio Public Employee Lawyers Association and the A.B.A. Committee on Practice and Procedure before the National Labor Relations Board.
Prior to attending law school, he served as a local union president, and worked as a staff representative/organizer for AFSCME Ohio Council 8. In 1985, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Capital University School of Law.
He regularly practices before the State Employment Relations Board and the National Labor Relations Board litigating representation and unfair labor practice issues. Additionally, his practice includes arbitration matters and court enforcement of arbitration awards, the enforcement of first amendment rights of public employees, class-action litigation concerning employee benefits, public records litigation and constitutional challenges to laws impairing public employee contracts.
He litigates issues arising under the Labor Management Relations Act, the Labor Management Reporting and Disclosure Act, the WARN Act, ERISA, RICO, COBRA, the FMLA, the Norris LaGuardia Act and challenges to collective bargaining agreements under chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code.
He has testified regarding labor issues before committees of the Ohio House and Senate; before the National Labor Relations Board concerning the implementation of its proposed rules; and before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Education and the Workforce concerning NLRA issues.
